I frequently use dried flowers and branches in my work. Often, natural materials are just as beautiful, if not more so, in states of decay than in life. And with the general tendency of the society in which I live to fear and deny death and shut it away, I try to draw attention to it and the circle of life.

With the Flower Garden installation, the dried flowers were intended to be the focus rather than a complement to the porcelain. I made the small stands in which the peonies, daffodils, and statice sit to be supportive but discrete.

The dead flowers were all dried slowly by air, and nothing was done to alter their natural appearance. They are as mother nature intended.
