For four years, my friend Natacha lived in Japan and amassed an incredible collection of kimonos, ceramics, washi paper, and kokeshi.

A photoshoot with the multi-disciplinary artist Sigrid Sandker transformed into a meditation on loss, and the places and people we miss.

Even your very first kimono,
dyed with bright
spring blossoms,
I pray you will pass it
on to your daughter,
and wear one more sedate,
until wrinkles smooth
and age sets in,
layer upon layer of
these garments
tracing the long, unfolding
story of your life.
