My Girls
These pieces are very special to me. They are part of a still evolving project, and have a shape I keep returning to repeatedly.
They are inspired by the different forms of wrap-style dress women have worn through the ages. They are also inspired by some of my favourite clothing - my pink shawl that dresses up any outfit, my blue wool cardigan that I wrap snug against the winter cold, and the sari that I wore to my best friend’s wedding.
This shape is also my small tribute to the power of women. Clothes can be a symbol of self-expression but they can also be used as a form of control. Too many women around the world are not free and not wearing clothes of their choice. And yet, they still find a way to gloriously bloom despite the darkness around them. And isn’t control all too often imposed on those who are feared, on those with the intelligence and ability to create a wise, loving world?
